Unemployment in Poland. Have the optimistic data been confirmed?

The unemployment rate in October was 5.6 percent. – the Central Statistical Office reported. This means that for the first time since May,this indicator did not increase.

On Wednesday,the Central Statistical Office (GUS) presented data on the unemployment rate in October. It amounted to 5.6%,which is the same as a month earlier. Thus,the Central Statistical Office confirmed the preliminary estimates of the Ministry of Family,Labor and Social Policy presented at the beginning of the month. October is the first month since May in which the unemployment rate in Poland does not increase.

However,the number of unemployed people registered in labor offices increased slightly. According to data provided by the Central Statistical Office,it amounted to 867.3 thousand in October. compared to 866.1 thousand a month earlier. The positive news is that today’s data are better than the initial forecasts of the Ministry of Labor,which indicated that the number of unemployed people registered in labor offices last month was 868.3 thousand. The Central Statistical Office also reported that the number of newly registered unemployed was 114.6 thousand. compared to 121.4 thousand previously.

The Central Statistical Office also presented data on the unemployment rate,calculated in accordance with the Labor Force Survey (LFS),which determines what percentage of the population is working or actively looking for a job. It turns out that in the third quarter of this year the unemployment rate was 3.1%. compared to 2.8 percent quarter earlier and 2.9 percent in the same period last year.

The highest unemployment rate was recorded among the youngest,i.e. people aged 15-24 (12.4%). Significantly lower values ​​occurred in the remaining age groups:

25-34 years old – 4%,

35-44 years old – 2 percent

In the group of people of immobile age (45-59/64 years) the unemployment rate was 2.3%.

In the period July-September this year. the number of professionally active people aged 15-89 was 17,923 thousand,of which 17,361 thousand were working,while 562 thousand – the unemployed. The economically inactive population in this age group amounted to 12,440 thousand. people.
